How to Use the Dubai Metro like a Pro in 2026: The Student Hack to Save 100s
Traveling in Dubai doesn't have to cost a fortune in taxis. In 2026, the RTA has made public transport the smartest way to move. Whether you are a student or a budget traveler, this is your 2026 cheat sheet.
The "Blue Nol" Secret (50% Off): If you are a student (5 to 23 years old), you are leaving money on the table if you don't have a Personal Blue Nol Card. It costs 70 AED to get (50 AED for the card and 20 AED credit), but it cuts your fares in half forever.
1 Zone: 1.50 AED (instead of 3 AED)
2 Zones: 2.50 AED (instead of 5 AED)
3+ Zones: 3.75 AED (instead of 7.50 AED)
- Pro Tip: This Blue Nol Card has to be connected to ISIC and get you free discounts in many stores with the use of Alive App. It can give discount in places like Zoom and Temu.
The 2026 "30-Minute Rule":
This is the ultimate hack. If you switch from the Metro to a Bus (or vice versa) within 30 minutes, the RTA counts it as one single trip. You don't pay for the bus if you just hopped off the Metro.
Pro Tip: You have up to 3 transfers allowed within a 180-minute window.
New for 2026: The "Peak Hour" Routes:
RTA recently launched new routes like 88A, 88B, 93A, and 93B to help with morning and evening rushes. Use the S'hail App (it’s free) to see live bus timings so you never stand in the heat for more than 5 minutes.
Advisor’s Extra Saving Tip: The Daily Cap: If you are traveling a lot in one day, your Silver or Blue Nol card is capped at 14 AED. After you spend 14 AED, every other ride that day is FREE. It’s like a hidden "All Day Pass"!
